Tensions are escalating in Los Angeles after protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement gripped the city on Sunday, with demonstrators clashing with law enforcement and setting vehicles on fire downtown.

Protesters in downtown Los Angeles vandalized at least five Waymo vehicles, setting at least two of them on fire, amid a chaotic demonstration against immigration raids. The activists spray-painted anti-Trump and anti-ICE slogans on the self-driving cars before igniting two of them.

What started as a small protest against immigrant arrests escalated over a few days, after President Trump called in the National Guard.

All traffic has been halted on a portion of the 101 freeway in Los Angeles as protesters walk on the freeway, according to Los Angeles Police Department. Both northbound and southbound lanes have been impacted, officials said. "101 freeway between Alameda and the 110 freeway is closed due to demonstrators walking onto the freeway," police said.
