Bryson DeChambeau encountered a rules controversy after a stunning video showed him placing, rather than dropping, his ball at the 125th U.S. Open.

Even for the defending U.S. Open champion, the rough at Oakmont Country Club is causing havoc early in the national championship.

One of the favorites to win the tournament, Bryson DeChambeau, shot a three-over-par 73, and Paul McGinley believes he had a solid opening round. He expects that LIV Golfer will continue to catch the rhythm, work on some other aspects and make magic at this tournament.

"I kept it 1-under through seven, through eight, hit a perfect drive on nine and this golf course can come up and get you pretty quick."

Bryson DeChambeau revealed Tuesday that his current contract with LIV Golf—which he signed in 2022 and was reportedly worth over $100 million—expires in 2026, but he expects to come to a new agreement later this year.

Under contract with LIV Golf, DeChambeau is one of the many top stars in the sport the fan-base at large rarely sees, as the majority of the viewing audience at home only gets to see Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson and Co. when they cross paths with the PGA Tour pros at majors.
