Police in Angola say five people, including a police officer, have been killed and more than 1,200 have been arrested after demonstrations in the capital, Luanda.

Angola's government said on Wednesday that the death toll from violent protests against a fuel price hike had risen to 22 from the previous day's estimate of four.

At least 22 people were killed and 197 others were injured in violence that erupted during protests against a fuel price hike this week, Angola’s government has said.
