A group of major energy users have signed a pledge to support tripling global nuclear power capacity by 2050. Nuclear power is seeing a resurgence in popularity thanks in part to significant growth in power demand due to AI.

A coalition of the world's biggest companies and largest energy users signed a pledge Wednesday in Houston to support a tripling of nuclear energy capacity by 2050.

The pledge is nonbinding, but highlights the growing support for expanding nuclear power among leading industries, finance and governments.

Tech giants and other major energy users Amazon, Google, Meta, Dow, Occidental, Allseas and OSGE have signed a pledge supporting the goal of at least tripling global nuclear capacity by 2050. ;

Major technology and energy companies have pledged to support wider use of nuclear power, as surging demand from data centers and factories outpaces current availability.

This is not the end; it is just the beginning,” the World Nuclear Association’s director general said of the 14 companies who committed to help expand nuclear capacity by 2050.
