U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill won the Democratic primary election for New Jersey governor in 2025, defeating a crowded field of candidates.

That’s the highest since at least 1989, when it hit 21 percent. In the last gubernatorial primary without a line — 1981 — turnout was 29 percent.
