The league announced his passing at the age of 84 on Sunday, following complications from Parkinson's Disease.

Paul Tagliabue, who helped bring labor peace and riches to the NFL during his 17 years as commissioner but was criticized for not taking stronger action on concussions, died Sunday from heart failure.

Tagliabue became commissioner in 1989, succeeding Pete Rozelle, and held the position until 2006, when it was passed on to Roger Goodell.
