The new affordable EVs will be based on a lower-cost version of the current MEB dedicated EV platform, found in vehicles like the ID.4 and ID.Buzz. The lower-cost version, dubbed MEB Entry, has been designed to be shorter than the regular MEB platform and features a single motor at the front.
VW’s circa-£17k ‘entry-level electric car’ due in 2027
To clarify, this electric model is separate from the ID.2, which is still scheduled to hot production either towards the very end of 2025 or early 2026; that model will be based off the ID.2all concept car. Volkswagen says it plans on launching nine new car models between now and 2027, including this entry-level EV and the ID.2.
