White House envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow on Tuesday and held talks that led to the release of American teacher Marc Fogel, who was detained in Russia, White House national security adviser Mike Waltz said in a statement.

The Trump administration secured the release of Marc Fogel, an American teacher detained for more than three years in Russia, in an “exchange,” the White House announced Tuesday.

The Kremlin said Wednesday that a Russian citizen was freed in the United States in exchange for Moscow’s release of American Marc Fogel, but refused to identify them until they arrive in Russia.
