Dawson Mercer had a goal and an assist as the New Jersey Devils broke out of a rut with a 3-2 victory against the host Seattle Kraken on Monday night.

The Devils’ four consecutive defeats hung heavy over them, but on Monday, January 6th, they finally shed it, conquering the Seattle Kraken 3-2 to reclaim their winning spirit.

SEATTLE -- Jacob Markstrom made 22 saves to help the New Jersey Devils end a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 win against the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Monday. Markstrom made two desperation saves in the third period to preserve the win, one with his glove on Eeli Tolvanen and one with his stick on Matty Beniers.

Markstrom's biggest save of the game came just moments after Palat's go-ahead goal, stopping Eeli Tolvanen on his doorstep. Markstrom was spectacular all evening, making 21 saves on 23 shots.

In a perfect world, the Seattle Kraken would have won Monday’s game (4-3) over the visiting New Jersey Devils. That would have halted a two-game slide, and they could have ventured off for a road swing with some wind in their sails (or waves pushing the Kraken in the right direction).

Markstrom made a pair of big saves late in the first period. With about 2 1/2 minutes left, he stopped Oliver Bjorkstrand’s 3-on-2 chance, and then with a minute to go he stuffed a breakaway from Andre Burakovsky.
