Heavy rain and gusty winds are expected in New York and New Jersey this week as a storm system approaches the tri-state area, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters warn there is a risk of flash flooding.
Broadcast meteorologists, emergency management officials, MoDOT representatives and public health employees from Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas met to discuss ways to improve weather communication.
Gusts to 40 MPH will be common through Wednesday, with a few possibly pushing 50 MPH. This could also lead to some fire danger concerns for western Kansas. Temperatures will be cool to chilly behind the front, staying in the lower 50s Wednesday. More widespread frost and freeze potential will come into play Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
One system departs as a strong cold front comes through Kansas early this week. Clouds stick around, rain returns and gusts increase due to this front.
