NYT columnist claims Trump and Abbott’s Texas redistricting plans are 'mustard gas on our democracy'
New York Times columnist David Brooks compared Trump's Texas redistricting efforts to 'mustard gas' on democracy, criticizing both parties' gerrymandering tactics.
By Matt Tracy (Reuters) -Pro-democracy activists and labor groups held hundreds of rallies and other events across the United States on Saturday protesting the Trump administration's push for Texas to redraw its congressional map in favor of Republicans.
The Texas redistricting standoff is reaching a critical juncture. In response, Texas House Democrats have remained outside the state to break quorum and block a vote.
But the fight is about to enter a new phase on Monday, Aug. 18. Democrats who broke quorum and left Texas, killed the first special session, and didn't show up for the start of the second special session — many believe they will Monday.
