The first high-level talks between Russia and Ukraine since the early months of Moscow's 2022 invasion showed they are far from agreement on steps needed for a ceasefire, even though they promised a major swap of prisoners of war.

Some of Russia's demands include the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from their own territory as a condition for a ceasefire, an unnamed Ukrainian source told Sky News.

Head of the Russian delegation Vladimir Medinsky, also an advisor to President Vladimir Putin, said on Friday that Moscow was satisfied with the results of the peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul. Speaking at a news conference in Istanbul, Medinsky said that as a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners.
