Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed five new members to the board overseeing the University of West Florida in Pensacola, including two people affiliated with The Heritage Foundation.
Gov. Ron DeSantis this week announced the appointment of five new members to the UWF Board of Trustees, including several conservative activists. The move has prompted concern among some faculty and alumni.
The move comes exactly 2 years after he replaced much of the New College Board of Trustees with more conservative members.
Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed five members to the University of West Florida’s board of trustees Monday, adding two controversial higher-ed reformers to the body that oversees the Pensacola public university.
Despite UWF being a top performer in the state, DeSantis' office said the appointments would "break the status quo and help refocus the university on the core mission of education."
