"Deputies went there, and basically, this plane is unrecognizable from the impact into the ground," the Sheriff said.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office spent hours searching for a missing plane that went down in after it lost contact with the Palatka Municipal Airport. Deputies said the plane did not arrive as scheduled.

The Federal Aviation Authority and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash, which took place in a wooded area in Bunnell.
