The women who were caught in the deadly avalanche Tuesday north of Lake Tahoe were a close group of friends, all mothers, who loved to spend time in the mountains.

The sheriff's office said eight bodies remain on the mountain and a ninth person is presumed dead, with recovery hindered by hazardous weather and ongoing avalanche danger.
