At least six people were injured in Kyiv as Russia launched a drone strike on the capital in the early hours of Wednesday, city officials said.

Russia launched more than 40 attack drones across the Azov Sea into eastern and central Ukraine overnight, damaging houses in Kharkiv and Odessa, the Ukrainian military said.

The Ukrainian air force said Russia had launched 21 missiles of various types and 40 drones in the barrage, adding that seven missiles and 16 unmanned aerial vehicles were downed. “As a result of the Russian attack, there were ballistic missile hits in Sumy and Kyiv regions,” the air force said.

Ukrainian sea and aerial drones targeted Sevastopol overnight on December 30-31, according to Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-appointed governor of the annexed region. Razvozhayev reported that Russian forces intercepted “four aerial targets over the sea” and destroyed two unmanned boats at a distance from the coast.

One of the drones flew back to Russia and another to Belarus. The drones were launched from Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, Bryansk and Orel oblasts, as well as from occupied Crimea. Earlier, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported thatat least four people had been injured in a Russian drone attack on the Ukrainian capital on the first day of the New Year.
