A 16-year-old high school lacrosse player died last week after being struck by an opposing player's shot during a game last week in Ohio.

Dylan Veselic, a 16-year-old sophomore at Bay Village High School, was injured during a lacrosse game on May 6 in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, the Bay Village School District told USA TODAY. Veselic was trying to block another player's shot when the ball hit him at the base of the back of his head, below his helmet, reported television station WKYC.

Tears flowed during a prayer service Thursday evening at St. Raphael Catholic Church, as mourners reflected on the loss of Dylan Veselic, a Bay High School lacrosse player who died after being injured in a game earlier this week.
