Accusing California of imposing “unnecessary red tape” on the production of eggs, the Trump administration is suing the state over animal cruelty laws it claims have driven up prices nationwide.

The Trump administration accuses California of passing laws that have of contributed to rising egg prices across the country.

The U.S. Department of Justice Wednesday filed a suit in Los Angeles against California, Gov. Gavin Newsom and other state officials over laws the Trump administration alleges impose burdensome red tape on the production of eggs and poultry products nationally in violation of federal law.
