A flood evacuation warning along the Yakima and Naches rivers will stay in place into next week because of more rain in the forecast, officials said Friday.
Van Giesen was closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic between South 38th Avenue in West Richland and Highway 240 in Richland by 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to a Washington state Department of Transportation official. Earlier at least one lane of the roadway had been underwater and closed to traffic.
As the Pacific Northwest grapples with the aftermath of severe flooding, thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes.
In early July, more than 130 people were killed in catastrophic flash flooding in the Texas Hill Country region, including 27 campers and counselors at Camp Mystic.
"The tidal overflow threat continues to decrease as the tide lowers and rainfall rates diminish. Thus the Coastal Flood Advisory will be allowed to expire," states the National Weather Service.
The Snoqualmie River reached its highest level in 10 years, surpassing major flood stage with a flow rate of 45,000 cubic feet per second at 17.8 feet.

On Friday at 7:01 p.m. a flood warning was released by the National Weather Service in effect until further notice for Clackamas and Marion counties.
