The Belgian Grand Prix has signed a new six-year deal with Formula 1, but will only be in the calendar in four out of those six seasons.

It was on the inaugural Formula 1 calendar in 1950, one of four races from that first season still run as an F1 event at its original track. On Wednesday, F1 announced that it has committed to keeping that tradition going through 2031,

The Belgian Grand Prix is one of the best racing events on Earth. In spite of that, Formula 1 is demoting the Spa race to part-time status.

The Belgian Grand Prix will appear on the F1 calendar for four of the next six seasons after 2025, taking place in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031. It marks a first step from F1 to introduce circuit rotation to its calendar amid sizable demand from countries around the world to host a grand prix.

The deal means the fixture at Spa-Francorchamps – which is among the most recognisable in F1 – will be omitted from the schedule in 2028 and 2030.

Alpine have acquired Franco Colapinto to become the team's reserve driver for 2025 adding further pressure on the under-fire Jack Doohan.

Alpine has maintained that Jack Doohan, who they named as Esteban Ocon’s replacement for 2025 at the end of August, is their race driver for the start of the season

Japanese Ryo Hirakawa has joined Alpine as one of their two test and reserve drivers this year. The 30-year-old, who was a development driver for McLaren in 2024, will take part in first practice at the Japanese Grand Prix for the team on 4 April.
