Three former colleagues of Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr defended his actions during a traffic stop that led to Patrick Lyoya's death.

High-ranking Grand Rapids officers defended Christopher Schurr’s actions Thursday, the fourth day of trial, as his attorneys tried to show that he was forced to use his gun after Lyoya got possession of his Taser. If convicted, Schurr faces up to life in prison.

Three years after Patrick Lyoya was fatally shot by a Grand Rapids police officer, a trial began April 28 for former officer Christopher Schurr. Schurr faces one charge of second-degree murder, to which he's pleaded not guilty.
