Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows has thrown his support behind legislation aimed at driving down property taxes by sending billions of dollars to school districts and giving small businesses more tax exemptions.

The Texas House has filed its school voucher bill. The legislation differs in several ways from what the Senate has already passed. The two chambers would have to hash out their differences before sending any legislation to Gov.

Gov. Greg Abbott has already held dozens of rallies around the state trying to build momentum for a school voucher program, which would allow parents to use tax dollars to partially pay for private school tuition.

Lawmakers will debate how to spend $3.5 billion in proposed tax cuts, a legislative priority for Republican leaders.
