Since 2019, the city’s population has dropped by nearly 10,000 residents, a loss of more than 8% of its population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. And Sugar Land is not alone.

Houston’s population remained virtually stagnant between 2022 and 2023, adding about 7,000 residents for an increase of 0.31%, the 2023 American Community Survey Single-Year Estimates show.

Texas' four most populous metro areas - Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin - were among the top 10 metro areas with the biggest population increases from 2022 to 2023.
