Slot was born on 17 September 1978 in Bergentheim, a village in the municipality of Hardenberg, the Netherlands. He was actually born Arend Martijn Slot, meaning Arne is a nickname. Arend is the Dutch word for eagle, and, while not a common name in the Netherlands, it was passed down to him by his father.
