Australian airline giant Qantas said on Wednesday that it has suffered a data breach that has compromised the personal information of at least six million passengers.

Qantas is contacting customers after a cyber attack targeted their third-party customer service platform. On 30 June, the Australian airline detected "unusual activity" on a platform used by its contact centre to store the data of six million people, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, birth dates and frequent flyer numbers.

In a press release published on the company’s website, Qantas said it spotted the intrusion after a threat actor targeted a call center, and accessed a third-party customer servicing platform. The name of the platform was not disclosed, but Qantas said six million customers have service records there.
