A Cape May County teacher charged with sexually assaulting a student over a period of four years while he lived in her home was released from jail Tuesday. Laura Caron is not a flight risk and will be free with conditions as her case proceeds, Superior Court Judge J. Christopher Gibson ruled during an approximately 45-minute detention hearing.

COURT HOUSE – Superior Court Judge J. Christopher Gibson has concluded that a 34-year-old Middle Township teacher charged with the sexual assault of a former student was not a flight risk or likely to commit a crime if released.

During an interview on January 3, 2025, police say the victim confirmed he had a sexual relationship with his teacher and that he was the father of her 5-year-old child.

The young boy reportedly admitted to being the father of Caron's five-year-old child and asked his sister to keep it a secret in text messages.

But she didn’t identify who the father was, at least not to me. She just said that he wouldn’t be involved and was out of the picture,” a friend said.
