A Chicago woman was arrested for the murder of a 1-year-old girl in the city's Garfield Park neighborhood, authorities said.

Marisol Vazquez, 37, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of her child Lucia on Dec. 20 around 8:30 a.m. local time, according to NBC 5, CBS News and The Chicago Tribune.

Marisol Vazquez, 37, allegedly confessed to suffocating her daughter, Lucia Arevala, and told detectives that voices in her head told her to kill herself and her daughter.
