Syria has signed up to join the international coalition led by the United States to combat the ISIL (ISIS) armed group.

Just 48 hours later, Mr Sharaa became the first Syrian leader to walk into the White House, where he met Donald Trump. “He comes from an extremely difficult place,” the American president later told a press conference. “I liked him, and I agree with him. We will do everything we can to make Syria successful.”
