In 1989, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck the San Francisco Bay Area, with its epicenter in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The quake hit at 5:04 p.m., moments before Game 3 of the World Series. It caused major destruction, collapsing parts of the Bay Bridge, freeways, and buildings. Tragically, 63 people died, over 3,000 were injured, and thousands were left homeless. | History In Pictures
